An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a three-year-old girl in the Capricorn area, according to police.

The incident was reported by Muizenberg police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Delmore Manuel, who said it occurred on the evening of Friday, April 3.

Officers responded to the complaint and immediately initiated an investigation, which led to the identification and arrest of a male suspect.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect has appeared in court and was remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” he said, adding that no further details can be disclosed at this stage.

The South African Police Service said investigations are ongoing and that additional information will be released as the case progresses and as permitted by law.

Muizenberg Community Policing Forum media liaison officer Wayne Turner said the forum strongly condemns crimes against women and children and urges the immediate reporting of any sexual offences involving children.

He said early reporting is critical to protecting victims, preserving evidence, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

The forum also reiterated its commitment to combating gang-related violence and drug dealing in the area, and encouraged the public to submit anonymous tips via Crime Stop (08600 10111) or the MySAPS app.
