Mercedes-Benz driver dies in tragic collision with stationary bus in Eerste River

A tragic motor vehicle accident claimed the life of a Mercedes-Benz driver when the vehicle he was driving crashed into the back of a stationary Golden Arrow Bus on Monday morning.

The accident was reported around 5am on Bobs Way and Duke Street in Eerste River.

According to reports, the Merc had five occupants when it slammed into the back of the bus, which had no passengers on board.

The driver was declared deceased on the scene, while four other passengers were taken to hospital.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that a culpable homicide has been registered.

Gwala reported: “Kleinvlei police attended an accident scene at the corner of Bobs Way and Duke Street, where a motor vehicle collided with a bus on Monday, April 13, at around 5am.

“Upon arrival, they found a silver Mercedes-Benz with five occupants. The driver of the motor vehicle was declared dead on the scene, while four passengers sustained various injuries and were transported to a medical facility.”

Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, spokesperson for the Golden Arrow Bus Service, said that the bus driver was treated for shock after the accident.

She said: “Based on the information available at this stage, a Golden Arrow bus was stationary when it was struck from behind by a third-party vehicle. 

“There were no passengers on board the bus at the time. 

“However, the bus driver was treated for shock following the incident. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected during this difficult time.”
