A mother of three from Bonteheuwel was gunned down in a suspected gang-related shooting incident on Sunday night.

The 34-year-old woman was shot in Terblanche Street in T-Block on Sunday evening at 9.10pm.

According to reports, the mom, who lives in nearby C-Block, was shot in the back and collapsed in a neighbour’s home as she tried to get away.

A source alleges that she was not the target, but was shot as gangsters went after one of her family members.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that Bishop Lavis cops registered a murder case following the shooting.

Twigg reported: “Police members were called to the crime scene, where they found the victim who sustained gunshot wounds to her back. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

“According to reports, the victim was approached by a male who shot her before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.”

The source, however, said that a well-known gang was behind the horrific attack, which left three minor children without their mother.

The source said: “The Hard Livings gang from C-Block were targeting the victim’s cousin who is part of another gang and in the process of that she was shot and ran into the property.”

Ward Councillor Angus McKenzie said that at this stage all indications are that it was a gang-related shooting, and since the incident, he has received substantial and credible information.

McKenzie said: “We can confirm the [that] we are aware of the gang responsible for this attack.

“We have the name of the suspect involved, and we are actively pursuing this matter with urgency.

“There are also rumours suggesting that the intended target may have been her son. At this point, we cannot confirm that, but it forms part of the ongoing investigation.”

He added that cops and neighbourhood safety teams will act on the intelligence received.

McKenzie further stressed that it is not only gangsters who suffer the consequences, but also the family of the deceased and the wider community.

He added: “Let me be clear, this cannot continue. Time and time again, it is not only gang members who suffer the consequences of this violence but also mothers, children, and innocent residents who pay with their lives.

“To the family of the deceased, we extend our deepest condolences. No words can ease your pain, but please know that this community stands with you.

“We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice.”
