The community of Manenberg was rocked by deadly shootings this weekend, leaving three men dead and one injured in two separate incidents.

On Saturday night, two men were shot dead in what police believe to be a gang-related attack.

According to the cops, a Toyota Quantum approached the occupants and opened fire on them before fleeing the scene.

A 34-year-old man was declared deceased on the scene, while a 27-year-old was found and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed: ‘The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Saturday night, April 11 at about 8.30pm in Scheldt Walk, Manenberg, where a 34-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded and a 27-year-old male was wounded, are under investigation.

The 34-year-old victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment.

“According to reports, the victims saw a Toyota Quantum approaching, and the occupants of the vehicle opened fire on them before fleeing the scene.

“The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related. Manenberg detectives are investigating murder and attempted murder cases.”

Someone close to the deceased said he was an innocent father of five children.

The acquaintance claimed that the man was making potjiekos for his family when he was gunned down.

The resident, who chose to remain anonymous, said: “He was an innocent, hardworking, family man who was sitting outside, making potjiekos for his family.

“When we saw him again, he was lying next to the potjie, shot dead. He is getting married the first week of June.

“The person who was also shot and wounded is a gangster; he survived, but the father of five, who is innocent, is dead.”

The shooting followed a double murder on Friday afternoon, after 2pm when a 28-year-old and a 52-year-old man were shot dead outside makeshift shacks on The Downs Road.
