A father from Northern Cape has been sentenced by the De Aar Regional Court for raping his biological daughter. To protect the identity of the minor, the father's name is withheld

According to evidence before the court, on November 26, 2023, the father fetched his daughter from her grandmother’s house in Nonzwakazi in De Aar.

It was the girl’s 13th birthday, and her father took her to his home with the promise of treating her on her special day.

He then forcefully undressed his daughter and raped her. He kept her inside the house and went to sleep.

The child managed to climb out through a window and returned to her grandmother’s house, where she relayed exactly what her father had done to her.

The grandmother immediately called the police. The father evaded arrest on several occasions but was finally arrested on November 29, 2023, at his home after police received a tip-off from members of the community.

Once he appeared in court, the father’s bail was denied, and he was remanded in custody until the conclusion of his trial.

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the father was convicted of raping his daughter and sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment.

The court further declared him unfit to possess a firearm and ordered his name to be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
