Hangberg resident Shakeelah Moses is seeking justice after her dog, Funky, was allegedly stabbed to death in the early hours of Saturday April, 4, while tied to his runner and unable to escape.
Funky had been living behind in the yard, tied to a runner, but had a problematic neighbour causing him some distress at all hours of the day, she said.
Moses claims she had previously reported ongoing issues to SAPS Hout Bay and the SPCA, including repeated trespassing on her property and the alleged abuse of Funky.
According to Moses, a neighbour had on several occasions entered the property and assaulted her dog while he was restrained.
“These people even threatened me if I should report them and what they did, but they murdered my dog, and I feel it’s not right,” she said.
On the morning of the incident, Moses said she had to witness Funky being brutally stabbed, an incident that she claims was "for no reason at all".
"I want justice for my dog. That was not right."

Moses is now questioning whether earlier intervention could have prevented the dog’s death.
The Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG), based in Hout Bay, said the organisation has now stepped in to assist.
“The SPCA has confirmed that they will investigate the matter. Hout Bay SAPS are yet to even contact the perpetrator, let alone enforce the provisions of the Animals Protection Act,” Natalie Kamieth from DARG said.
She added that Moses had approached DARG in desperation to highlight what she described as a lack of action and growing concerns around animal cruelty in the area.
“It is not an isolated incident. This type of thing is happening daily in Hout Bay, and the local authorities continue to shelve animal abuse cases as the human element will always take preference,” she said.
She further warned that DARG is prepared to escalate the matter.
“As DARG, we intend to report SAPS Hout Bay to IPID should this matter not receive urgent attention.”
Hout Bay police have confirmed that a case has been registered, adding that the docket will be investigated in conjunction with the SPCA.
