Unemployed young people in Cape Town will have a chance to secure work in the fast-growing call centre sector when A Day of 1000 Opportunities returns to Athlone Stadium on Thursday, 16 April.
The City-supported initiative, hosted by CapeBPO, will run from 8am to 5pm, bringing together major contact centre operators to recruit and train job seekers.
Twelve companies, including Capita, Concentrix, EXL, Foundever, IGT Solutions, TTEC and WNS/Ucademy, are expected to offer on-the-spot interviews, career guidance and training pathways for those not immediately hired.
Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth James Vos said the initiative connects job seekers directly with employers in a sector that continues to expand.
“This isn’t just any other job fair. CapeBPO’s team, together with 12 of the biggest contact centre operators in Cape Town, will be at Athlone Stadium offering practical career guidance, interviews, and an offer to receive training for those who might not get signed up on the day,” Vos said.
Applicants must be between 18 and 34, unemployed, have a Grade 12 qualification or equivalent, no criminal record, and be based in the Western Cape. A certified copy of an ID or driver’s licence is required.
Vos said the BPO sector already employs more than 100,000 people in Cape Town, with demand expected to grow.
“This is a real opportunity to get your foot in the door of one of Cape Town’s most consistent job-creating sectors,” he said.
CapeBPO CEO Clayton Williams said the initiative creates “practical pathways” for young people to enter the industry through partnerships between government and private companies.
The event is open to qualifying candidates, who are encouraged to register online ahead of time.
