Tragic shootings in Salt River leave one dead and another injured as police investigate

Woodstock police are investigating an attempted murder case after a shooting incident that took place at Shelley Street, Salt River.

Two separate shooting incidents that occurred in Salt River during the past week are currently under investigation by Woodstock police.

In the first incident, a shooting took place at Shelley Street, Salt River, on Tuesday, March 31. According to Provincial police spokesperson, Thembakazi Mpendukwana, after 11pm, police reported that a 40-year-old male was shot numerous times. “He was taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. No arrest has been made yet regarding this incident. The investigation is ongoing,” she said. 

Then, last Thursday, March 26, the provincial police spokesperson, Constable Ndakhe Gwala, confirmed that Woodstock police responded to reports of a shooting at the corner of Lower Main and Chatham roads, Salt River, after 7pm. “Upon arrival at the scene, they found a bullet-riddled silver Mitsubishi tow truck. Inside was the body of a 25-year-old male who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”

Constable Gwala said that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and no arrest has been made at this stage.

A case of murder is registered, and the matter is still under investigation.
