'Sister Killer' Aletta Rose stays locked up after gruesome murder
Murder accused Aletta Rose, 63, made her second appearance at the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Monday morning after allegedly beheading her 79-year-old sister Constance Scholtz.
Rose was arrested on March 19, 2026 when police found the decapitated body of “Aunty Connie”, as her sister was fondly known, inside her home in David Street, Bellville South.
Not only was Aunty Connie decapitated, but her killer cut off her hands too.
It isn’t the first time Rose has been charged with murder, after she was also charged with murdering her brother-in-law - her husband’s brother - in 1996.
It is believed that she stabbed her brother-in-law during an argument with her husband.
Rose was convicted of murder and sentenced to six years in prison - three of which were suspended for five years. She ended up serving only three years.
When Rose appeared before the court yesterday morning, she kept staring at the cameras of the media without showing any signs of emotion.
When the magistrate asked if she wanted to be referred for a psychiatric evaluation, she told her legal aid lawyer that she did not want to be referred.
The matter has been posted to May 5 for further investigation, as the witness statements, crime scene photos, and post-mortem are still outstanding. Rose will remain in custody.
During her first court appearance on March 23, when the magistrate asked if she wanted to apply for bail or remain in custody, she responded that she wanted to remain in custody as she does not have money to apply for bail, a fixed address and is homeless without a job.
The court proceedings were attended by Aunty Connie’s son, who refused to give any comment.
The funeral of Aunty Connie will be held on Saturday.
Reports have been swirling online that Rose allegedly stored body parts of her sister in Tupperware after the murder.
However, the National Prosecuting Authority debunked those claims, saying, “no body parts have been stored or found in Tupperware as has been reported.”
However, the main question on everybody’s lips remains, ‘waar kry sy al daai krag’ (where does she find the strength) to do such an evil deed.

Meanwhile, IOL reported that Scholtz lived alone and neighbours became suspicious after noticing her usually neat curtains, appearing dishevelled.
When they called her name, Rose told them she was fine and was out of town.
Another neighbour, who is related to Scholtz, alerted her son about her concerns.
Reports state that when the son went to his mother’s flat, his aunt told her that his mother was away. He then left the property.
Another neighbour apparently noticed a blood stain on Rose’s clothing and the son was alerted once more and he returned to his mother's flat.
It is alleged that when he entered the flat, he found his mother’s dismembered body parts.
