Two jet-skiers were assisted after both of their watercraft experienced mechanical problems in the surf zone at Koegel Bay, prompting a response from the National Sea Rescue Institute.
NSRI Station 9 in Gordon’s Bay was activated at 8.44pm on Friday following a request for assistance from the pair, who had been test-driving jet-skis.
NSRI Gordons Bay duty coxswain Jacques Vivier said one jet-ski initially suffered motor failure. While attempting to recover it, the second jet-ski also developed mechanical issues.
NSRI rescue swimmers and a rescue vehicle were dispatched. On arrival, crews found both men safe on the shoreline with the jet-skis in shallow surf.
Rescue teams remained on standby at the NSRI base, prepared to launch additional craft if needed.
On scene, NSRI assisted the men in recovering the jet-skis onto their trailers. One jet-ski was towed back to Gordon’s Bay Harbour by the men, while the second was towed by the NSRI rescue vehicle.
Both men were safely returned to the harbour and required no further assistance.
The operation was completed at 11.49pm.
