Murder most foul: Granny beheaded in Bellville South home; 63-year-old Arrested
The community of Bellville South is mourning the horrific murder of a 79-year-old woman, who was beheaded, apparently by someone known to the family, at her home on Thursday night.
A 63-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the murder, which has sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Monday.
When Cape Argus sister publication, the Daily Voice arrived at the home on Friday, where the incident took place on David Street, we were greeted with a thick lock on the gates and locked doors as police tape was still evident in the street.
We were informed that Aunty Connie has one son who lives in Stikland.
Attempts to contact the son by phone have been unsuccessful.
According to one resident, she is still shocked about the ordeal.
She said: “She would have been 80 years old soon. I do not know what happened, but this is a big shock for all of us.”
Another resident said: “I knew [the victim] for years. I am still in disbelief. This is a sign that we are living in the end times. Die wêreld is boos hier buite.(The world is evil out here)”
