A 10-year-old boy from Mitchells Plain was pinned and hit by his uncle after being disrespectful to his grandmother on Saturday.

The boy sustained visible bruises to his face and body after he was allegedly pinned to the bed and hit repeatedly in the face by his uncle.

According to the upset mother, her son lived with his paternal grandmother and gave them permission for corporal punishment, but not to that extent.

The mother explained: “My son was hit by his father’s 40-year-old brother. I was at work on Saturday when my son phoned me to fetch him, but he didn’t say that he had been attacked.

“I told him I will come after work because I thought he wanted to come for the weekend because I work Monday to Sunday.

“He started sending me pictures of his face, saying that his uncle slapped him 20 times in the face.

“I asked my son what he did because they won’t just hit him for nothing.

“He said that he was rude to his grandmother. I went straight from work to his grandmother’s house. “Apparently, his grandmother asked him to do something, then he was rude to her, he showed her the middle finger and swore at her.

“The grandmother said that the uncle got ‘fed up’ and grabbed him, sat on top of him, and smacked him in his face about twenty times.

“I gave them permission to give him a hiding because I know he can be very rude and stubborn, but the way his uncle attacked him was not fair.

“His face is full of blue marks and scratches, his nose and lip were bleeding, I feel that is an attack, not a hiding.

“He has a bump on his head, and when he was done, he still had to wash the uncle’s car.

“I am devastated by the way his face looks. It’s upsetting.

“I took his stuff, and he now lives with us.”

The mother opened a common assault case at Lentegeur police station.

Police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana confirmed that the matter is under investigation.

Mpendukana confirmed: “A common assault case was registered at Lentegeur Police Station on Sunday, March 15 at 4pm following an incident in which a 10-year-old boy was beaten by his uncle for being rude to his grandmother.

“The boy sustained visible injuries on his face but they were not severe therefore he was not taken to hospital, the case is still under investigation, and no arrest has been made yet.”
