Yet another double murder has rocked the community of Kalksteenfontein, pushing the grim death toll to seven in less than a week.

Two men, aged 18 and 22, were shot and fatally wounded in Buttercup Street at about 6.15 am on Monday morning in an alleged gang-related shooting incident.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that Bishop Lavis police have registered two counts of murder following the shooting incident.

Van Wyk reported: “According to reports, three unidentified males walked up to them and randomly fired several shots at them and fled the scene.

“Crime scene experts were on the scene, combing the area for clues. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related; however, this forms part of the investigation.”

The shootings follow after seven innocent men were shot in Soetkop Street on Thursday, three were shot in Netreg Way, and two men were shot last week Tuesday in Hanekam Street.

According to a source close to the investigations, it is alleged that the spate of shootings is due to a hostile takeover of drug turf by the Fancy Boys gang.

Chairperson of the Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Forum Graham Lindhorst said they extend their condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.

Lindhorst said: “The Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention can report a double murder that took place in Kalksteenfontein earlier on Monday morning.

“This double murder comes on the back of a triple murder on Thursday that was preceded by a double murder last Tuesday.

“We make a serious and urgent call to SAPS to get a grip on crime and, in particular, murders in the precinct.”
