Strandfontein police on the hunt for suspects after brazen Bayview carjacking

A Correctional Services officer and her family have become victims of a carjacking in Bayview, Strandfontein, after brazen robbers demanded their vehicle and fled the scene with it.
According to police, the hijackers approached the woman’s husband just before 7am along Seafarer Drive on Tuesday.
CCTV footage of the incident shows how the hijackers ran down the road and jumped into the vehicle, leaving the family shocked in the street as they fled with the car.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg explained what transpired: “Strandfontein police registered a carjacking for investigation following an incident on Tuesday morning, March 3, at about 7 am, where unknown suspects robbed the victim of his Renault Sandero in Seafarer Drive, Bayview, before fleeing the scene.
"According to reports, the victim was standing at the shop when he was approached by unknown suspects who demanded his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
“Anyone with any information about this incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.”
The Strandfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) is warning residents to remain vigilant: “The shocking hijacking in Bayview, Strandfontein this morning is a stark reminder to stay alert.
"We urge residents to be cautious at all times, day and night. Check your surroundings before getting into your vehicle, even when pulling up at home at any time of the day. Ensure street lights are functioning, and enhance home security, we have seen an increase in theft, but no cases are being registered. If stolen items are recovered, please do not hesitate to report it – call 10111 and make a case.
“With developments on the horizon, we expect more activity in Strandfontein, but our policing resources are stretched. Reporting crimes justifies the need for more support.
"We also need SAPS to boost their morning bus stop patrols daily. A trauma support team is available at Strandfontein SAPS for victims of crime.”
