Two firearms, including one reported stolen nearly three decades ago, were confiscated after a shooting in Atlantis early on Sunday morning.
Police said the incident unfolded at about 6:45am in Bossanger Street, Robinvale, when officers on patrol heard gunshots in the Dura Flats area.
According to Captain FC van Wyk, members followed the sound of the shots and spotted two men running from the scene.
“The members saw that the suspects threw something away and upon returning to the place where the items were thrown, the members found two firearms,” he said.
The recovered weapons included a 9mm pistol loaded with two 9mm cartridges and a black Ekol Viper 4.5 revolver.
Despite a pursuit, the suspects managed to evade arrest.
When officers returned to the address where the gunshots were reported, they found two men, aged 28 and 33, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Police believe the motive for the shooting is gang-related.
Further investigation revealed that the 9mm pistol had been reported stolen at Themba SAPS in August 1997, while the Ekol Viper revolver was unregistered.
Both firearms were booked in as exhibits at Atlantis SAPS as part of two counts of attempted murder.
“Investigations continue,” Van Wyk said.
