Four taxi owners associated with the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) were shot on Friday, resulting in one fatality and three others being injured.

The four men were shot around 2.40pm at Killarney taxi rank in what police believe to be a taxi-related incident.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that a murder case and three attempted murder cases are under investigation.

Twigg reported: “Table View police registered a murder and three counts of attempted murder cases for investigation following a shooting incident on Friday afternoon, February 13, 2026, at about 2.40pm, on the corner of Koeberg and Blaauwberg Roads, Table View, where a 39-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded and three males, between 30 and 43, wounded.

“Police members were called to the crime scene, where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.

“The 39-year-old victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

“According to reports unknown suspects opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack is believed to be taxi-related.”

This is the second incident in less than a week where a CATA member was gunned down.

On Monday afternoon, 09 February 2026, at about 4.20pm, a 36-year-old male was shot dead and an adult female and two adult males were wounded in Macassar.

According to reports, unknown suspects opened fire on the minibus taxi before fleeing the scene.

CATA spokesperson Nkululeko Sityebi confirmed that the four men are taxi business owners.

He said: “I can confirm that one fatality was reported at the scene and three others were injured and transported to a medical facility for treatment, where they are critical but stable.

“We extend our condolences to the deceased. They are not drivers; they are taxi business owners.

“We are deeply concerned by the way our members are being gunned down whether it be a driver, a marshall, a working committee member or an owner. One life is too many.”
