Emerging reports indicate that DA Federal leader John Steenhuisen, is poised to announce his decision not to participate in the party’s leadership race.

The DA is set to convene its national federal congress in April, where Steenhuisen was expected to face off against prominent contenders, including Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, and Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi.

Last month, it was suggested that Steenhuisen was open to seeking re-election for a third term.

However, he has now called a press conference in Durban on Wednesday, during which he plans to address "concerning matters of national importance and public interest."

Furthermore, the name of Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille has also surfaced as a potential candidate in the leadership race.

This is a developing story.
