A shooting in a quiet Gordon’s Bay neighbourhood has left three men dead in what police believe to be a gang-related incident.

The men were gunned down while seated inside the parking lot at Gordon’s Bay Mall on Tuesday night around 9.30pm.

According to police information, they were approached by gunmen who opened multiple shots, killing all three before fleeing the scene.

Two victims died inside the vehicle while another died outside of the car, with his body found lying on the pavement.

Police confirmed that they launched a manhunt to find the killers of the victims aged between 40 and 45 years.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that the circumstances surrounding this triple murder is under investigation.

Emergency services declared all three men dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.

Potelwa reported: “Western Cape police have launched a manhunt for gunmen after three men between the ages of 40 and 45 were shot and killed in Gordon’s Bay on Tuesday evening.

“Official reports indicate that the deceased men were in the parking lot at Gordon’s Bay Mall at approximately 9.30pm when unknown gunmen travelling in a vehicle approached them and shots were fired.

“Two victims died inside the vehicle and another outside the car. The suspects later fled in their vehicle.

“Gordon’s Bay police have registered a triple murder docket for investigation. The incident is believed to be gang related.”

Ward councillor Sean Stacey was stunned by the incident.

He said: “I think everyone is still coming to terms with what happened, as it happened late last night. We are all surprised and deeply saddened by it.

“This is not a very common occurrence. I heard that some people were still at the mall when the incident happened, I saw in some community groups but it might have been people who were using the ATM because you can still access the ATM even if the mall is closed.”

“I do not know all the details as it is still very early, but I feel at the moment that it is isolated information but my opinion might change as more information comes to light.”

Abie Isaacs, Chairperson of the Cape Flats Safety Forum called for an immediate response to the escalating gang violence from government.

He said: “We as the Cape Flats Safety Forum condemn these violent shootings in the strongest terms.

“We once again call for the deployment of the SANDF and to declare a State of Disaster too. What is concerning is that it seems gang violence has moved to other areas now, but we hope SAPS have a stabilising team in place.”
