A fire that broke out near Signal Hill late on Sunday night was successfully extinguished in the early hours of Monday, with no injuries reported and no property damage.
Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said crews received reports of the blaze at about 9:30pm on Sunday, January 18.
“Due to the extent of the fire, more than 60 firefighters responded, assisted by Table Mountain National Park and Volunteer Wildfire Services,” Carelse said.
Operations were coordinated by an Incident Management Team (IMT) Type 4, while firefighters also worked to protect properties in Voetboog Street as the fire advanced in that direction.
The blaze was extinguished at around 1:00am, after which crews conducted periodic inspections until 4:30am to ensure there were no flare-ups.
“No property was damaged and no injuries were reported,” Carelse confirmed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
