Police crackdown in Ravensmead leads to arrests for drug dealing and assault

Police close in on three suspects involved in illegal liquor sales in Ravensmead.

In a successful operation on Tuesday, members of Operation Shanela II arrested three suspects aged between 30 and 35 for various charges, including drug dealing, possession of illegal substances, assault on police officers, and operating a liquor business without a license.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk explained that at approximately 7:45am, police received intelligence regarding drug sales occurring at a residence in Beulah Court, Ravensmead.

Operation Shanela II results in the seizure of illegal substances and the arrest of three individuals in Ravensmead.

"The members received information about drugs being sold at a premises in Beulah Court, Ravensmead. They operationalised the information and approached the mentioned house upon which a search ensued," he explained.

Van Wyk added that the police members persistence paid off when they recovered a consignment of drugs including tik, mandrax tablets, cocaine, several liquor and beers and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime.

"As they were arrested and taken to the police vehicles the suspects incited the people in the court yard to throw stones at the police. No SAPS vehicle was damaged or members injured," he added.

"Once charged the suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates court on the mentioned charges."
