Sandvlei Neighbourhood Watch thwarts robbery and arrests suspects in Macassar

Three suspects apprehended by the Sandvlei Neighbourhood Watch while attempting to steal a bakkie in Macassar.

Three suspects have been arrested after they were caught red-handed with a stolen vehicle which had a flat tyre, leading to an end of their crime spree.

Thanks to the vigilant action of the Sandvlei Neighbourhood Watch, who spotted the trio with a stolen Nissan 1 Tonner bakkie along Beach Road in Macassar, which had a flat tyre and were apparently on their way to carry out another robbery when they were foiled. According to the Sandvlei NHW, the bakkie had been stolen from a property in Macassar during the early hours of Saturday, January 3.

“Sandvlei NHW would like to report a successful operation this morning at 01:40 am. While on patrol, 3 suspects were apprehended on Beach Road, suspected of stealing a Nissan 1 Tonner bakkie in Link Avenue Macassar,” said the NHW. “The suspects were targeting another bakkie on Beach Road, Kramat, when they were caught by the Sandvlei NHW. “Thanks to the swift response from the Macassar C.P.U Constables Samuels, Abrahams, and Fortuin. The suspects were arrested for motor vehicle theft.

"A white bakkie was stolen early this morning from the Macassar area. The owner noticed it missing around 4.30 am. “At about 5 am, a friend spotted the bakkie standing on the N2 with hazards on and a flat wheel. By the time the owners got there, it was gone again.” Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg explained that the trio are expected to make an appearance in court.

“Kindly be advised that three adult males were arrested for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle and car breaking implements,” he detailed.

“The suspects will appear in the Somerset Magistrates’ court on Monday, 5 January, 2026. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.”
