62-Year-old man arrested for illegal firearm and drug possession in Gugulethu
Police in Gugulethu uncover a stash of drugs and an unlicensed firearm during a routine patrol, leading to the arrest of a 62-year-old man.

A 62-year-old man has been arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm after a 9mm pistol and 538 mandrax tablets were found at the premises where he resides in Gugulethu.
Police spokesperson, Constable Ndakhe Gwala said during a search of the premises in NY 151, the stash of drugs and a firearm was discovered.
“Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team, steadfast in their mission to prevent crime, recovered an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, a consignment of drugs and cash in Gugulethu on Sunday, January 4,” Gwala explained.
“The members were conducting their routine patrols in NY151 when they were approached and informed of suspected drug activity in the area. They immediately went to the address and found a 62-year-old male.
“A thorough search was conducted at the premises, which led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol with nine rounds of ammunition, 538 mandrax tablets, and an amount of R6620.00 cash.
“The suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession and dealing in drugs.”
Gwala added the suspect will make his first court appearance in the Athlone magistrate’s court, once charged.
