Vegetation fire contained on Signal Hill: What you need to know
A vegetation fire above High Level Road in Green Point was brought under control within just over an hour on Sunday, with firefighting crews continuing mopping-up operations and no damage reported to infrastructure.

A vegetation fire that broke out above High Level Road in Green Point on Sunday morning has been contained, with firefighting crews continuing to mop up hotspots and flare-ups.
City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jemaine Carelse said firefighters were alerted shortly after mid-morning.
“The Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 10:25 of vegetation alight above High Level Road, Green Point,” Carelse said.
“Currently two choppers are water bombing the area with various City firefighters, TMNP and NCC crews assisting on the ground.”
“The fire has been contained at around 11:40, however crews still have a large area of hotspots and flare-ups to deal with.”
SANParks confirmed that the blaze occurred near Upper Strand Street on Signal Hill, within the Table Mountain National Park area.
In an update issued at 11:15am, SANParks said the fire had been contained and that mopping-up operations would take some time. The fire was reported at 10:25am and brought under control by 11:15am.
Importantly, SANParks confirmed that no infrastructure was damaged, including the historic Noon Day Gun site.
Fire crews from the City, Table Mountain National Park and supporting agencies remain on scene as a precaution, monitoring conditions and ensuring no re-ignition occurs.
