City of Cape Town safety and law enforcement teams were deployed across beaches and major routes on Christmas Day following a fatal incident at Strandfontein Beach, a near-drowning at Muizenberg Beach, and several alcohol-related enforcement actions.

City of Cape Town teams were deployed across beaches and major routes on Christmas Day as festive crowds gathered along the coastline.
“City of Cape Town teams have been hard at work keeping beachgoers safe on Christmas Day.”
Earlier in the morning, officers attended a scene at Strandfontein Beach, where a fisherman died after falling and sustaining an injury.

At Muizenberg Beach, officers responded to a near-drowning incident. The swimmer was rescued and taken to hospital for further treatment.
“There was also a near drowning at Muizenberg Beach where the swimmer was rescued and transported to a local hospital for further treatment.”
Law enforcement officers also issued a fine to a beachgoer in Muizenberg who was found in possession of more than 20 units of alcohol, including beers, whiskey and ciders.

City teams further monitored highways and major roads, arresting five motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The City warned that pressure on services is expected to increase on Boxing Day and into the weekend.
“The City expects a very busy day tomorrow, on Boxing Day, and also into the weekend.”
Residents and visitors were urged to cooperate with officials and comply with regulations.
“Our staff will be out in full force. We appeal to the public to please do their part and obey the rules, to ensure a safe and enjoyable time for all.”
