Day of Reconciliation marred by multiple shootings: Taxi driver and teenager among victims

Police have had their hands full on the public holiday, the Day of Reconciliation, with a taxi driver being shot and killed in Lavender Hill including two other gunshot victims in Imizamo Yethu.
Police said a gunman had opened fire on the taxi driver while he sat inside his minibus along Hek Street and Grindel Avenue in Lavender Hill just after 3pm on Tuesday.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, spokesperson for the police added that the motive for the attack would form part of the investigation.
“Steenberg police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Tuesday, December 16 at about 3.10pm, on the corner of Hek Street and Grindel Avenue, Lavender Hill and upon arrival on the scene found a 55-year-old male inside a minibus taxi who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body,” he explained.
“The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment where he was declared deceased. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
“Steenberg detectives are investigating a murder case.”
Twigg said in Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, a teenager managed to escape with his life after being shot, and a 23-year-old man was killed.
“Hout Bay police registered murder and attempted murder cases for investigation following a shooting incident on Tuesday, December 16, at 6pm, in Molokwane Street, Imizamo Yethu, where a 23-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded and a 17-year-old male shot and wounded,” he said.
“Police members attended the crime scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.
“The 23 year old victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made.
