Two taxi drivers in the Southern Suburbs have been shot dead in less than 24 hours with police investigating the motive.
The latest victim is a 34-year-old man who was shot on the corners of St Patrick Avenue and St William Road in Seawinds on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the driver had been attacked while sitting inside a minibus taxi and did not survive the shooting.
“The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on December 17, at about 2.40pm, on the corner of St Patrick Avenue and St William Road, Seawinds, where a 34 year old male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation,” he said.
“Muizenberg police responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victim inside a minibus taxi with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.
“The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
“A murder case was registered for investigation.”
Hours before, on Tuesday, December 16, a 55-year-old driver was shot multiple times while sitting in a minibus taxi along Hek and Grindel Avenue, Lavender Hill.
Twigg said the motive was under investigation.
“Steenberg police responded to a complaint of a shooting on December 16, at 3.10pm on the corner of Hek Street and Grindel Avenue, Lavender Hill and upon arrival on the scene found a 55-year-old male inside a minibus taxi who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
“The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment where he was declared deceased. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
“Steenberg detectives are investigating a murder case.
