A 27-year-old man has been arrested following a fatal collision in which a 41-year-old cyclist was killed on Victoria Road near Glen Beach in Camps Bay on Tuesday morning.

Ward Councillor Nicola Jowell confirmed the death at the scene. “A cyclist has been knocked down by a car on Victoria Road landmark Glen Beach. Sadly the cyclist is deceased,” Jowell said.

She said Victoria Road between Strathmore and Argyle Road was closed for several hours to allow forensic teams and SAPS accident reconstruction officers to work.

“Victoria road between Strathmore and Argyle Road will be closed for the next few hours while forensics and SAPS accident reconstruction teams attend the scene. Please use alternative routes and expect delays,” she said.

Jowell added that another person was injured. “Condolences to the family of the person who has tragically lost their life this morning. A second person has been take to hospital with injuries,” she said.

SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said Camps Bay police had opened a culpable homicide case following the crash, which occurred at about 7am on Tuesday, 16 December 2025. “According to reports the driver of a BMW collided with the victim. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel,” Twigg said.

He confirmed an arrest had been made. “We can confirm that a 27 year old male was arrested and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on Wednesday, December 17 , ” Twigg said.

The latest fatality comes amid ongoing concern about cyclist safety in Cape Town. In August, the Cape Argus reported a series of separate incidents in which cyclists were killed or seriously injured across the city, including a fatal crash on Chapman’s Peak Drive involving a tour bus and another deadly collision in Claremont during a commute to work.
