A safety alert has been issued for Camps Bay after three armed suspects fled into the area above the suburb, prompting an active search involving rangers, security forces and drones.
According to South African National Parks (SANParks), the search follows a housebreaking incident in the early hours of the morning.
“There is an active search underway in the area above Camps Bay for three armed suspects following a housebreaking incident in the early hours of the morning. Rangers and security forces are searching the area with the help of drones,” said SANParks Head of Communications and spokesperson JP Louw.
SANParks has urged the public to stay off the mountain. “For your safety, all hikers are strongly advised to avoid the Camps Bay hiking trails until further notice,” the statement reads.
Officials say the area will remain closed until authorities confirm it is safe. “We will provide updates as soon as authorities declare the area safe. Stay alert and prioritise your safety.”
Search teams are continuing operations across the mountain slopes above Camps Bay, focusing on popular trails and access points. No additional details on the suspects or trail reopening times were provided.
Authorities will release further updates once the search concludes and the area is cleared.
