Two men killed and teenager injured in Stratford Green shooting

Police have had their hands full this weekend after another fatal shooting which claimed the lives of two males and wounded a 16-year-old boy on Sunday.

The police were called to the crime scene along Warwick Crescent just after 8am where the bodies of the two men aged 20 and 25 were found.

The teenager was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg explained: "The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Sunday morning, December 7 at about 8.10am, in Warwick Crescent, Stratford Green, Eerste River, where two males aged 20 and 25 were shot and fatally wounded and a 16-year-old boy wounded are under investigation.

"Kleinvlei police were called to the crime scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. The 20 and 25-year-old victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the 16-year-old victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

"According to reports the victims were standing in the road when a white vehicle drove up to them and one of the occupants of the vehicle opened fire on them before fleeing the scene.

"Murder and attempted murder cases were registered for investigation.

Twigg said that meanwhile SAPS together with other Law Enforcement agencies are in the affected area conducting crime prevention initiatives to combat gang violence and to stabilize and restore calm to the area.

"Anyone with any information about this shooting incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously," he added.

Twigg explained that during a separate incident, members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in the Steenberg policing precinct to combat gang violence, arrested a suspect who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm on Saturday night.

"The members followed up information about the suspect in Retreat. The man fitting the description was apprehended and a .38 Special revolver and ten rounds of ammunition were found in his possession. Investigation revealed that the suspect is also wanted for murder and attempted murder cases in Steenberg," he said.

He faces charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, murder and attempted murder.

"He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates' court once he has been charged for the mentioned crimes."
