A customer's viral video has exposed concerning hygiene conditions at KFC's Modderdam Road branch in Belhar, showing a kitchen that falls far below expected cleanliness standards.
The footage has sparked outrage among local patrons and raised questions about food safety practices at the outlet
The video was taken on Sunday night when a couple from Bishop Lavis went via the 24-hour drive-through. The man and his wife ended up having sandwiches for supper after their appetite was ruined by the filthy kitchen.
The video shows the kitchen floor in a filthy state, with cups, tissues and chips lying around.
The man can be heard saying: “Kyk hoe lyk it hier binne in die Kentucky Belhar. These people are working with food but see how it looks inside. Yoh. This is Belhar KFC.” (Look at how it looks inside this Kentucky Belhar.)
An employee can be seen walking over the dirt as another patron can be heard ordering food in the background.
The man who did not want to be named said he and his wife came from town after watching the Festive Lights Switch-On around 9.30pm.

He told the Cape Argus' sister publication, the Daily Voice: “My wife and I went to KFC in Modderdam, Belhar because we know their drive through is open 24 hours.
"We waited in the drive-thru for over an hour for our food. The driver behind me went and checked see why are they taking so long with our food.
"He pulled his face in disgust and that prompted me to also go and check why is he pulling his face like that.
“When I got to the window, I was shocked to see the kitchen. I wasn’t even hungry anymore, I was just naar.(nauseous)
"We spent about R300 on the food but we did not eat it. I asked them why does their kitchen look like this. It looked like a vark hok.” (pigsty)
KFC has since released a statement, saying: “KFC is aware of a video circulating online with respect to the KFC Belhar restaurant.
“KFC requires that all restaurants comply with stringent food-safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards and does not condone the behaviour depicted in the footage.
“KFC confirms that it is addressing the matter with the Franchisee and that immediate retraining and corrective actions are being implemented at the restaurant.”
