Cape Town is bracing for a high-octane sports weekend as cricket, rugby sevens and football collide across the city the weekend.

The action starts on Friday when the Proteas Women return to home soil for the first time since their historic World Cup run.

They face Ireland in a T20 international at Newlands Cricket Ground on December 5. Gates open at 1pm, with the first ball at 2pm. Tickets are available via Ticketpro.

The team’s last home appearance ended with a fairytale push to a maiden ODI World Cup final — a milestone still fresh in supporters’ minds.

On Saturday, the Mother City shifts into festival mode as SVNS Cape Town marks its 10th anniversary at DHL Stadium.

With 40 matches featuring the world’s top men’s and women’s sevens teams, fans can expect “speed, skill, and non-stop action”.

SVNS also brings the party: live performances by Jimmy Nevis and YoungstaCPT, plus a DJ battle between DJ Alicious101 and DJ Chelsea Sloan, refereed by DJ Ready D. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

To ease congestion, spectators can ride the free MyCiTi shuttle from the Civic Centre, Thibault Square and Stadium stations on both days. Stadium gates open at 9am. The first bus leaves the Civic Centre at 8:30am. Kick-off is at 10am.

The final bus departs the stadium at 9:30pm on Saturday and 7:30pm on Sunday.

Parking is available at the CTICC (paid), the Civic Centre and on-street bays. The City will open 475 parking bays at the Civic Centre from 7:30am on a first-come, first-served basis.

E-hailing drop-offs will be directed to P14 in Green Point Main Road, between York and Wigtown roads.

Road closures will be in effect from 6am on Saturday and Sunday at Fritz Sonnenberg/Bay Road, Stephen Way/Fritz Sonnenberg, Vlei Road/Helen Suzman Boulevard and Granger Bay Boulevard at the Green Point A-Track.

Football fans get their turn when Cape Town City FC hosts Highbury FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

City head into the match with momentum after three wins and a draw from their last four games.  Kick-off is at 3:30pm.  Entry is free, with tickets available at the stadium booth on Hickory Street.
