A night of terror in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain has left three people dead including a nine-year-old boy as police launch an intensive manhunt for four gunmen who stormed a home in Viscount Street.
The attack unfolded on Tuesday evening, December 2, when the suspects opened fire outside the property before entering and shooting the victims.
A nine-year-old boy, a 21-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were killed. Two men, aged 51 and 36, were wounded and rushed to hospital.
Detectives from the Anti-Gang Unit have taken over the case and are following “several promising leads” as they hunt the shooters.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile condemned the killings, calling the massacre a direct assault on the community.
“This cowardly and senseless act will not go unanswered. Gangsterism has no place in our society. We will not allow criminals to hold our communities hostage through fear and violence. The SAPS will not relent, we will tighten the net around these criminal elements and ensure that every individual involved in violent gang activity is brought before the law,” he said.
He also issued a warning to those behind the bloodshed: “Your days of terror are numbered. We are coming, and we will ensure you face the full might of the law.”
Police have urged residents to come forward with any information that could help crack the case. Tip-offs can be shared anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the MySAPS app.
