Two convicted drug dealers have been handed long prison terms after officers found a gift-wrapped parcel packed with methamphetamine during a taxi stop on the N12.

The Oudtshoorn Regional Court sentenced Vuyiseka Miranda Mzwake and Victor Ikechukwu Udoh on Monday following their 2021 arrest.

“The Oudtshoorn Regional Court sentenced Vuyiseka Miranda Mzwake and Victor Ikechukwu Udoh for dealing in drugs yesterday (Monday,” SAPS spokesperson, Constable Ndakhe Gwala, confirmed.

“The pair was arrested on October 15, 2021 when Flying Squad members pulled over a taxi between Oudtshoorn and George. Officers searched the passengers and found a courier parcel wrapped like a gift in their possession. Inside was methamphetamine worth an estimated R260 050.00.”

A 30-year-old South African woman and her 33-year-old Nigerian counterpart were taken into custody at the scene.

The case was assigned to Sergeant Elliot Feni of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigations Narcotics Unit. After what SAPS described as an in-depth investigation, the duo was prosecuted and later convicted.

Mzwake received 15 years imprisonment for dealing in drugs. Udoh was sentenced to 20 years for dealing and another two years for contravening the Immigration Act.

Police said the sentencing reflects ongoing efforts to clamp down on meth trafficking in the region.
