Murder investigation launched after Delft mother found dead

The family of a Delft mother is urging authorities to bring her killers to justice.

They believe Caylin Mesias was choked to death after her lifeless body was found dumped in Gilbert Street during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 35-year-old mother of three was found by passers-by not far from her home in Eindhoven.

According to her older brother Mario Mesias, his sister was addicted to drugs, but he described her as an amazing woman who will be missed by many.

He said that he was woken from his sleep by a resident who identified Caylin when she was found outside a wendy house on an open plot.

Mario explained: “Around 2am, women saw her body lying outside and they knocked at the door of the wendy house, telling the man who lives there that a body was lying in front of the property. When he went to check and shone his torch, that was when he saw it was Caylin. 

“He woke me up and told me the news. As I was running to the scene, I just kept hoping that it was not her but when I arrived there, she was already cold. I checked for stab wounds but there was nothing.

“I suspect that she could have been choked to death because she had bruises in her neck.

“My speculation is that she could have been murdered elsewhere and dumped there because she was lying on her back like she was positioned that way, but we are waiting on the results from the post-mortem report.”

Mario added: “We want justice because her children now have to grow up without both their parents, their dad also passed away.”

Residents in the community said they want the perpetrators to pay for what they did to Caylin.

One woman said: “Caylin was ‘n lieflike mens (lovely person), she would not hurt a fly. She knew everyone in the community and everyone knew her.

“She would always greet you when she walks past you. Whoever did this must pay. We cannot have people like this living among us who does things like this.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the matter is under investigation.

Van Wyk reported: "This office can confirm an incident in Gilbert Street.  An Inquest was opened for investigation. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death."
