A search that gripped two provinces ended in relief on Sunday when missing Cape Town man Tristan Ehrenreich was found alive — disoriented, dehydrated, but safe — just days after his mysterious disappearance near Kareedouw.

Police confirmed that the 28-year-old was discovered at about 07:30 on Sunday morning, only a few kilometres from where his overturned vehicle had been found earlier in the week. According to police spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli, “He is currently receiving medical treatment at the nearest hospital.”

Police had earlier appealed for assistance as the search intensified. Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said an immediate operation was launched after investigators located the wrecked vehicle. “On Sunday, a thermal drone was also utilised but with no success,” he said.

“On Monday, the search team was joined by the Airwing, and K-9 from Gqeberha, as well as other stakeholders.”

Ehrenreich, from Kuils River, had been reported missing by his family on November 15. Police traced his vehicle to the R102 near Oudebosch Farmstall, where it had veered off the road and overturned. He was nowhere to be found.

The breakthrough on Sunday ended a week of anguish for his relatives, who had clung to hope that he was alive. His sister, Taryn Ehrenreich, said earlier that the family believed he might simply be injured and lost. After he was found, she posted a message of gratitude: “We are overjoyed and deeply grateful to share that Tristan has been found safely. Thank you to every single person who prayed, shared the posts, searched, supported, and stood with us during this incredibly difficult time. Your love, compassion, and action made a difference. All glory and thanks to God for His protection, guidance, and for bringing Tristan back to us.”

The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain under investigation.

Police have thanked everyone who assisted during the search.
