A father from Delft South is pleading for public assistance in locating his 9-year-old daughter who disappeared last week. The community has joined the search effort as concerns grow over the child's safety. Police have launched an investigation into her disappearance.

Akahlulwa Qwili, 9 was playing with her friends in Suburban last Monday November17, when she disappeared around 6pm.

According to her father, George Thompson, she was last seen by community members on Tuesday.

The anxious father revealed this is the second time the little girl has disappeared in the past few weeks, but was not away for this long.

The father explained: “We last saw her on Monday evening but according to residents in the community, they saw her on Tuesday in the area but they did not know she was missing.

“Akahlulwa has been through a lot of trauma which has left her traumatised so now it is affecting her behaviour.

“This is the second time she ran away from home in a month. But she was only gone for a few hours and came back because she took some money and ran away.

“We have a lot of trouble with her misbehaving, but that is because she is so traumatised because of what she has been through. The social workers are involved to try and get help for her.

“We hope that she is safe wherever she is and that she will be back home soon because we are worried about her.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said a missing person report has been opened.

Van Wyk reported: “Delft Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences unit (FCS) is seeking the assistance of the public to trace nine-year-old Akahlulwa Qwili who was reported missing at the Delft police station by her father.

“Akahlulwa Qwili was last seen on November 17 at 6pm, when she went outside to play with her friends. She was dressed in a maroon jersey, black and white dress, striped yellow tight, and peach sandals.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information about her whereabouts to kindly contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Ayanda Ndaba on 073 423 0049 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
