One dead and three injured in suspected gang shooting in Goodwood

A suspected mass gang-hit in Goodwood on Sunday afternoon has left one person dead and three others wounded.

According to reports four men were shot at while driving in a vehicle. The driver lost control after shots were fired and drove into a tree in Van Riebeeck Street.

Goodwood Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Abdullah Sydney told Cape Argus sister publication, the Daily Voice that the incident is alleged to be gang related, however he could not confirm whether the incident was a retaliation or a hit.

Sydney said: “I can confirm that the driver drove into a tree and lost control and they were shot. All we know for now is that it is gang related and we do not know if it is a retaliation or a hit.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg reported that Goodwood police responded to a complaint of a shooting that occurred in Van Riebeeck Street.

Twigg said: “Upon arrival on the scene they found four males who sustained gunshot wounds. A 20-year-old male was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other three males also in their twenties were transported to a medical facility for treatment. 

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.”

He added that Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) detectives are investigating a murder and four counts of attempted murder cases.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting incident in Hanover Park on Friday. 

Police called for the public to come forward with information after the incident at Mentz Court in Lansport Road.

SAPS provincial spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said: “The motive for this incident is being investigated and the possibility that the incident could be gang-related cannot be ruled out. Suspects are unknown and no arrest has been made as yet.”  

In Colorado Park, Mitchells Plain, crime groups reported a shooting that left two people wounded when their car came under fire in Sacramento Street.  

Meanwhile, two gang- related shootings were also reported in Heideveld.
