A Lentegeur family and broader community have been left devastated after a pedestrian, identified as Angelo “Elo” Adams, also known locally as Rasta, who was killed in a violent crash on Eisleben Road on Wednesday afternoon.
The collision happened in broad daylight, on a busy stretch of road, and left bystanders deeply shaken. Hundreds of people were on the scene in the moments that followed.
Emergency personnel confirmed that the impact was fatal. Due to the severity of the collision, the victim’s body had been split in half, with parts found inside the vehicle and the rest several metres away where the car eventually came to a stop. Graphic videos of the aftermath have since circulated widely on social media and community groups, prompting renewed calls for people to avoid sharing distressing content out of respect for the deceased and his family.
Adams, described by many online as gentle and well-liked, has been mourned in dozens of messages posted across social platforms since news of his death broke.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said police have opened a case and are now investigating.
“Lentegeur police registered culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving cases for investigation following an accident in Eisleben Road, Lentegeur, on Wednesday afternoon, which claimed the life of an adult male.”
He said that, according to witness reports, the driver of a BMW drove on the wrong side of the road and collided with the pedestrian.
Medical personnel declared the man dead on the scene.
Twigg added that the BMW kept moving after the initial collision:
“The driver of the BMW crashed into four other vehicles injuring the drivers and their passengers which include children.”
He said all of the injured were taken to hospital.
“The injured victims including the driver of the BMW were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.”
The investigation is ongoing.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and an arrest is yet to be made.”
Many have called for accountability and urgent measures to curb reckless driving on busy routes.
