Lentegeur shaken by triple murder

Police have launched a major investigation after the bodies of three individuals were found in a silver VW Polo on the corners of Hillcrest Road and Park Way in Montclair, Lentegeur, at approximately 6 am on Wednesday morning.

Residents woke up to the shock of two men and one woman found dead inside a parked car in the middle of the street. 

One of the bodies was found inside the boot in what is believed to be a gang-related incident.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said that the victims are all in their twenties and each sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

Traut reported: “Preliminary information suggests that the incident is gang related. Detectives have been assigned to the case and are pursuing several leads in a bid to track down those responsible.”

Lentegeur Community Police Forum chairperson Michael Jacobs said they believe that the bodies were dumped in the community as there were no bullet casings found on the crime scene.

“I can confirm that three bodies have been found in a car, all three persons deceased. Two Coloured males and one Coloured female. 

“The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the bodies in the car in Montclair are under police investigation and we call on the relevant detectives and SAPS to thoroughly look at the circumstances of why three bodies ended up in a car,” Jacobs said.

“We as a community cannot allow that murders and gun violence continues unabated within our communities. 

“We are calling on all authorities in the Law Enforcement agency to come to the bottom of this triple killing and we cannot allow that there are no consequences for gun violence, not only in Lentegeur or Mitchells Plain but on the whole of the Cape Flats.”

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General (Advocate) Thembisile Patekile, has expressed strong condemnation of the senseless act of violence and reiterated the SAPS’ unwavering commitment to dismantling gangs and rooting out those who continue to terrorise communities.

“Gangsterism has no place in our society. The SAPS will continue to exert pressure on these criminal networks until every individual involved in violent crimes is brought to justice,” said Lieutenant General Patekile.
