Only one of the three men arrested in connection with the death of Metro Police Constable Tyler Lamb has been charged with murder, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed.
The three men appeared briefly in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where they were all charged with conspiracy to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances. The first accused faces additional charges of murder and possession of one round of ammunition.
According to the NPA, the case has been postponed for a bail profile report on the third accused. The first and second accused have indicated that they will not be applying for bail.

The NPA also cautioned that the names and photographs of the accused may not be published, as the police still need to conduct an identity parade.
Constable Lamb, 30, was part of the City’s newly deployed Neighbourhood Safety Officers when he died on November 7 during a pursuit in Kensington. Lamb reportedly fell from a roof while chasing a suspect linked to a robbery earlier that day and later died despite emergency efforts to save him.
City of Cape Town Safety and Security Portfolio Chairperson Alderman JP Smith said the City welcomed the decision by the main suspect to abandon his bail application.
“Our Safety and Security Investigative Unit worked closely with police to identify the suspects involved,” Smith said. “We remain committed to supporting Constable Lamb’s family and colleagues during this difficult time.”
The matter will return to court on November 17.
