Influencer and former girlfriend of TV presenter Katlego Maboe, Monique Muller, arrested for illegal possession of a firearm linked to gang activity, has been granted bail, as evident from her recently active Instagram and TikTok accounts.
Muller was granted bail just over a week ago after making appearances at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court.
Muller was arrested alongside five others, which included four males and a woman in October. It’s alleged that Muller and the group were arrested by police inside a vehicle.
It is also understood that a separate case is ongoing at the Bellville Magistrates' Court involving some of the male suspects.
Muller took to her social media account late last week, sharing the following quote, breaking her silence: “When God chooses a woman for a purpose, He first lets the world underestimate her. So her rise becomes proof of his plan.”
It is also understood that the other female co-accused was granted bail.
Queries to the National Prosecuting Authority about the case’s latest developments went unanswered.
A local crime fighter, who asked not to be identified for safety reasons, said they were following both cases: “The men arrested with her are allegedly linked to a murder case in Ravensmead. Their case is separate from Monique’s. Monique and the other girl was granted bail."
In an earlier response to Cape Argus about Muller’s arrest, police spokesperson, Sergeant Twigg, confirmed that she had been apprehended: “In response to your media enquiry, kindly be advised that the person mentioned in your enquiry faces a charge for the illegal possession of a firearm together with other suspects and appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 21 October where the case was remanded until October 30,” he detailed.
Maboe made headlines when a video of him confessing to infidelity went viral, leading to allegations of cheating and domestic violence. He denied abuse claims but was suspended from the Expresso Show, and Safta and OUTsurance removed his advertisements at the time.
Maboe's attorney, Andre Johnston, at the time confirmed that letters of demand were sent. The letters allege that Muller's relative maliciously posted false Instagram stories in October 2020, accusing Maboe of domestic violence, damaging his reputation and income.
The legal team then stated these allegations were untrue and had severely harmed Maboe's reputation. Both Muller and a relative were instructed to issue an apology, a retraction, and pay R1 million each in compensation, plus legal costs.
