The body of an unidentified woman was discovered dumped along Baden Powell Drive in Macassar on Friday afternoon, with residents calling it "a huge problem."

The grim scene was captured in photographs that circulated on social media, showing the woman's body partially covered in sand after being found by a passer-by.

Twigg reported: “Macassar police registered a murder case for investigation after the body of an unknown female was discovered by a passer-by in Baden Powell Drive, Macassar, on Friday afternoon at about 2.50pm.

"The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

Macassar community leader Christiaan Stewart said that the dumping of bodies is a continuous issue for years, because there are no lights and CCTV cameras along that stretch of Baden Powell Drive.

He explained: “Another body has been found along Macassar Road and Baden Powell Drive, this is a huge problem. I have sent an email to the City of Cape Town and the councillor about the lighting and they only send reference numbers but never fix the lights.

"We requested for CCTV cameras along these roads because these bodies cannot be dumped like this, it is shocking. We had a meeting but received no proper answer from both SAPS and City regarding safety concerns.”

“The bodies does not get dumped every week but the number of bodies that get dumped varies.”
