"We can't live like this" was the cry for help from Overcome Heights residents after two men were shot in the head on Monday morning.

The shooting incident took place in Rasta Close where a 28-year-old man was shot in the head and declared deceased on the scene.

The second victim who also sustained gunshot wounds was transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Muizenberg detectives are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

“Muizenberg police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Monday morning, at 07:00, in Rasta Close, Overcome Heights, and upon arrival on the scene they found a 28-year-old male who sustained a gunshot wound to his head", Twigg said.

In September, a group of women from the Overcome Heights community chained themselves to the gates of parliament, demanding urgent action and answers regarding the ongoing violence that has plagued the community.

Community leader Karen Mentoor said that after their protest, the gun violence has started to flare up again.

Mentoor explained: “Since we went to chain ourselves at Parliament, the community was quiet for three weeks because there were foot patrols and police visibility every day. But after those three weeks, we were back to just seeing one van and afterwards nothing.

"I think they did that just to keep us quiet so that we don’t go to parliament again, but we are planning to go back because we can’t live like this - in fear.

"There was a fire over the weekend and we had to assist the victims dodging bullets while our community workers were risking their lives, working in fear."
