Two brothers Connor, 15 and Carter, 13, are flying the SA flag high for wrestling after bringing back home gold and silver during their latest competition.
Connor, 15 and Carter, 13, competed at the South African Wrestling Federation (SAWP) National Youth Championship held between 9 and 11 October 2025 at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria
Connor, who is in Grade nine, secured gold and became the SA U20 champion while his brother, Carter, 13, who’s in Grade seven, brought home three silver medals and one bronze in his category.
The brothers practice four times a week and are part of the Parow Wrestling Club.
Their father, Angus Mckenzie said he and his wife Kelly said they were incredibly proud of their sons.
“To see them carving out a future for themselves and pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved and never giving up makes our job as parents in supporting their dreams easy,” Mckenzie added.

“At their young age they've become role models for so many other young people. What encourages us more is that they are both brilliant provincial rugby players and what makes their mom really happy is that they are academics as well.”
Connor told Cape Argus he was thrilled to see his hard work paying off: “I believe these achievements are not just for myself but I hope to use my achievements to encourage other children to believe in themselves and work hard as well.

Carter added that he loves the sport: “I love the contact and I love the training but its the fact that my best wrestling partner is my dad who I never win against.”
The brothers said they also like to publicly thank the Parow Wrestling Club.
“They want it to be known that the commitment and effort displayed by the coaches has made them perform at the highest level and love the sport even more so much easier,” Mckenzie added.
“Parow Wrestling Club coaches and administration must be applauded for work they are doing."
