Cape Flats Crisis: Four children shot in less than a week

Police are investigating the shooting of a four-year old after he was shot in the head.

A Four-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot and wounded yesterday in Hanover Park.

Four children have been shot in less than a week in three different communities, with two being fatal.

Police increased visibility following the shooting in Moray Court just after 2.30.pm .

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk explained what transpired: “ Philippi police have increased visibility in and around Moray Court, Hanover Park following a shooting incident on October 8 at 2.30pm at the mentioned address, where a four-year-old boy was shot and injured. The injured victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment

 “The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Philippi police registered an attempted murder for investigation.

 “The unknown suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is yet to be determined.

 “We appeal to anyone with information to please contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Xolani Baso on 082 469 6534 or 021 690 1516 alternatively Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or alternatively use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.”

The shooting follows just days after a 17-year-old boy was killed in Fabriek Street, Eureka Estate, Ravensmead.

Police said the teen had been shot alongside two others aged 14 and 27, who were sitting inside a wendy house on Sunday.

A 12-year-old boy was also shot on the corners of Moria and Wendy street in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain last week, while walking to collect party packets for his young siblings.

Moegamat Faizel Challis died in hospital the next day.
