Teen arrested with R14,000 worth of drugs hidden in plastic bag and pensioner found with AK-47 assault rifle
Swift police patrols in Manenberg lead to the arrest of a teenager with a stash of drugs.

In a significant day for law enforcement in Manenberg, Metro Police officers made two notable arrests: a 15-year-old boy caught with R14,000 worth of drugs hidden in a plastic bag and a 61-year-old man apprehended with an AK-47 assault rifle at his residence.
On Wednesday, while patrolling Sabie Road, officers observed a man walking suspiciously with a plastic bag.
Upon stopping him, they discovered a substantial stash of drugs valued at R14,000, as confirmed by Metro Police in a statement.
“The officers approached him and requested permission to conduct a search, they confiscated just over 200 packets of tik, more than 150 mandrax tablets, 20 packets of cocaine and nearly two dozen ecstasy tabs,” Metro police said.
Metro police said the suspect, aged 15, was detained at Manenberg Police Station for further investigation, and his parents were alerted to his arrest.
The Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks said its Crimes Against the State (CATS) together with the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 61 year-old suspect on Wednesday for possession of prohibited firearms, which turned out to be an AK47.
Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, spokesperson for the Hawks explained that they had responded to information received regarding an AK-47 assault rifle at a house in Joseph Street, Manenberg.
The information was immediately operationalized and upon searching the premises, an AK- 47 assault rifle was found. The suspect was arrested as he could not account for the possession thereof,” he said.
“He will appear in the Athlone Magistrates on October 3.”
The Acting Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the Western Cape,, Brigadier Mushavhaduvha Ramovha commended the team for the swift response and further applauded the public for their vigilance.
