On Friday morning, traffic officers in the City of Cape Town demonstrated remarkable vigilance when they discovered an injured colleague.

Maxine Bezuidenhout, the spokesperson for Traffic Services, reported that a traffic officer on patrol found a stationary vehicle along Baden Powell Drive shortly before 6:30 am.

“The vehicle was empty, but the officer noticed blood stains and that the key had been broken off in the ignition. It emerged that the vehicle belongs to an off-duty Traffic Officer.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) was notified along with the Safety and Security Investigative Unit and Information Management Service (SSIU and SSIMs),” Bezhuidenhout said.

Efforts at the time were focused on finding the officer, who, by indication of blood stains, may be injured.

Bezuidenhout confirmed an aerial search took place around Baden Powell Drive along with the SAPS K9 and Search and Rescue teams conducting on the ground searches.

Just before 9am, Bezuidenhout confirmed the officer had been found.

“The officer has been found. He is injured, but alive, and has indicated that he was assaulted and robbed. The SAPS will investigate the circumstances around the incident,” she said.
