A couple has been arrested and charged with the murder of a Bloubergstrand car guard after the fatal attack was caught on CCTV footage.

The man, aged 30 and the woman, 24, are expected to make their first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where they will face a charge of murder.

Their arrest follows a shocking 1:32-minute video captured of the murder, where they allegedly fled the scene in their vehicle.

The murder took place in a parking area at Marine Circle, Bloubergstrand, during the early hours of Sunday.

Police have since indicated that the victim has yet to be identified.

The male suspect is seen getting out of his vehicle while the female passenger dressed in a red t-shirt remains behind and joins the car guard where they are seen talking.

The car guard begins to walk with the male and after speaking for a few seconds, the man pulls out a weapon and stabs the guard on the left side of his body.

The woman climbs out of the vehicle and the guard is seen falling between two vehicles.

The couple then flee the scene and three passersby notice the guard lying on the ground and try to assist him.

Table View police station spokesperson, Captain Adriana Chandler, said the suspects were arrested thanks to the CCTV footage and were traced to their home.

Detectives apprehended two suspects linked to a murder, which occurred during the early morning hours of August 31 at Marine Circle in Bloubergstrand,” she said.

“Officers were busy with routine patrols in the vicinity, when they noticed a crowd gathering in Marine Circle.

“An unknown male was found unresponsive, with a stab wound under his arm.

“Paramedics declared the victim deceased at the scene.

“On the same day SAPS Table View detectives went to a property near the crime scene, where video footage was obtained.

Two suspects were identified, and were traced to a dwelling in Cape Town, where they were arrested shortly before noon."

David Harris, chairperson of the Table View Community Policing Forum, told the Cape Argus they were pleased with the arrest.

“While we deplore the incident, we are delighted by the professional approach of our SAPS detectives in tracking down the alleged perpetrators.”

Provincial police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, said the motive behind the murder was yet to be determined.

Nicholas Gotsell, constituency head and member of the Select Committee on Security and Justice, commended the police for their swift arrest.

The Beach Boulevard Business Forum (BBBF) said via their social media page that they have committed to beefing up security.

"To enhance public safety, especially ahead of the high-peak festive season, the BBBF is implementing additional security measures, including expanding CCTV coverage across key points on the Boulevard and strengthening coordination with SAPS and private security partners."

Chandler said in an unrelated incident, a burglar gained access to a property in San Martin Crescent, Blouberg, by forcing a window open, where an 87-year-old woman lives.

The woman fought off the attacker and he then jumped out of a window and fell on his head and succumbed to his injuries.
