Remembering Mark Llewellyn Wilkin: A legacy of leadership at Golden Arrow

Golden Arrow bus services' Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Mark Llewellyn Wilkin has died.

Golden Arrow Bus Services has announced the death of its Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Mark Llewellyn Wilkin who has dedicated 42 years of distinguished service.

Wilkin, who died at age 71, began his career during the 1980s when the bus company was first known as City Tramways.

Francois Meyer, Chief Executive Officer for Golden Arrow said Wilkin had been a pioneer in the business.

“Golden Arrow Bus Services, a subsidiary of Frontier Transport Holdings Limited (JSE: FTH), announces with deep sorrow the passing of Mark Llewellyn Wilkin, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, who dedicated 42 years of distinguished service to the company. Mr. Wilkin passed away on 31 August 2025 at the age of 71,”  he said.

“Mr. Wilkin began his career with City Tramways in 1983 and was appointed Financial Director in 1988.

“In 1992, he played a key role in the management-led buyout of City Tramways from TGH Limited, leading to the formation of Golden Arrow Bus Services Proprietary Limited. He continued to serve as Financial Director from its inception. 

“In 2018, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Frontier Transport Holdings, where he also served as a member of the Board.”

Meyer said Wilkin was instrumental in the financial growth of the company and showed leadership and loyalty.

“Throughout his tenure, Mr. Wilkin’s strategic leadership and financial stewardship were instrumental in guiding the company through decades of growth and transformation," he said.

"His unwavering commitment to sound governance and long-term value creation has left an indelible mark on both Golden Arrow and the broader transport sector.”

He added that he had left a legacy behind.

“I am blessed to have worked with Mark for 34 years, and there is no doubt in my mind that we are where we are today because of his vision for Golden Arrow and its people,” he stated.

“In this moment, it is difficult to imagine a Golden Arrow where Mark is not walking beside the leadership team, but a major part of his legacy will live on in the knowledge and wisdom that he so freely shared. We will cherish his memory always.

“Golden Arrow Bus Services and Frontier Transport Holdings extend their heartfelt condolences to Mr. Wilkin’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn his passing. His legacy will continue to inspire the values of integrity, excellence, and service that he so passionately upheld.”
