City of Cape Town traffic services officials prevented a suicide attempt on Sunday when a man in his 20s attempted to jump off a footbridge.

According to Traffic Service spokesperson, Maxine Bezuidenhout, the man was spotted on the Kalkfontein footbridge over the Stellenbosch Arterial Road.

The Traffic Service can confirm that officers reported an attempted suicide on Stellenbosch Arterial Road, at the Kalkfontein footbridge.

“A person thought to be in their late 20s tried to jump off the footbridge. Various services responded to the incident and managed to talk the man down,” Bezuidenhout said.

She added once the man was calm, he was transported to a police station.

Meanwhile in Sea Point, police attended to a crime scene early hours on Sunday at the Sea Point Promenade, and found a body of a deceased man.

According to authorities, it was an apparent suicide by shooting.

Ward councillor, Nicola Jowell, said law enforcement and police officials arrived at the scene, however, he was already dead.

“Around 7:30am a male on the Sea Point Promenade is believed to have taken his own life by means of a gunshot.

"It is terribly sad for him and his family that he felt he had nowhere to turn other than this.”
